The micro-practice model requires that patients feel comfortable collaborating with their physician and actively providing their input by engaging in self-service using the technological tools made available to them.  Clinic staff are replaced by a “virtual front desk”, which directly contacts the doctor. This means I will continue to rely heavily on technology such as online booking and electronic communication through OCEAN. I thank you for continuing to use these services.

I enjoy connecting with people with as few barriers as possible. By operating a micro-practice, I can spend more time getting to know you and what's important to your individual situation. I thrive on running an efficient practice with good access, continuity of care and satisfaction of both patient and doctor. 

The micro-practice model relies heavily on the use of technology to remove third person disruptions, improve clinic efficiency, and allow better access and communication for both physician and patient. If this does not resonate with you, you might want to consider switching to a physician who operates with the more traditional type of practice.

Yes, Ana will still be at the front as she is continuing on as Dr. Abawi's medical office administrator. Therefore her attention is reserved for patient's of Dr. Abawi.

I use a 'virtual front desk' which means there is not someone answering the phone. Any phone calls will go directly to my line. Most of a typical work day I will be participating in front line care with patients, and will not be able to answer directly, and will ask you to leave a voicemail for me to return your call if required.

The best way to contact me is therefore by secure message here, as this is directly linked to your electronic medical record and is a secure method of communication. It quickly allows me to see all of the medical information relevant to you and therefore easily answer your questions.

If you would like to pay in cash, please send me an email and I will let you know next steps.

I ask that you provide at least 24 hours notice if you need to cancel or reschedule an appointment. This allows me to offer the appointment slot to another patient in need of care. Best way to cancel is to email me or leave a message at 705-241-7607. If it is very close to your appointment time (within a few hours, considered a late cancellation) a text message to the above number would also be appreciated. A charge may be incurred for late cancellations, and if they are frequent, you may loose the option to prebook any appointments in the future.

If you have a medical emergency, please call 911 or go to the nearest emergency room. 

If you have a non-life-threatening urgent medical concern, please call me or text me at 705-241-7607 and I will do my best to fit you in for an appointment or direct you to the appropriate care for your issue. Note that this number is only available during office hours of 9AM to 5PM.

Unfortunately I am not taking any new patients at this time, and I do not have a wait list. Please visit www.gbfht.ca for a list of local family doctors taking patients. I will advertise here as well if I open to new patients in the future.
